I connect everyday with amazing women around the world, who are facing infertility. I spend time sharing my story, but listening to their journey is more important to me. It’s comforting to oneself knowing that you are not alone, and knowing someone is there to provide support.
My personal experiences inspired me to develop IVFDiaries.com, to do just that — provide a place where one can go for education, resources, and support on infertility.

Unfortunately, Infertility affects 7 million people in the United States alone each year. Not being able to conceive brings upon feelings and thoughts of countless emotions. Fortunately there are many options that can help ease this roller coaster of emotions. Many of these options are made available in books. What He Can Expect When She’s Not Expecting has caught my interest very much.
The author of the book stated that couples should always remember two things when facing infertility: communication and humor. When my husband and I decided to be Angie’s surrogate, we knew it was not going to be an easy process, but his support and endless ways of making me laugh through the injections, made it a little less stressful.
In this interview, Marc Sedaka shares his inspiration for the book. His story makes me believe that with love…anything is possible.

Surrogacy in Hollywood: Mothers with Bellies Elsewhere

Most women who dream of bearing a child imagine doing so the natural way—by carrying their unborn child for that wonderfully traditional period of nine months. Morning sickness and crazy cravings are definitely to be expected. As is the onslaught of hours-long, unforgettable pain that takes place upon the event of delivery. But to a truly dedicated mother, absolutely nothing can efface the tenderness and beauty of holding her child that was borne directly of her loins.
If only this message of mirthful motherhood could completely penetrate the sphere of the famous and of Hollywood.
You see, the stars of television and film are a bit more cognizant of their person and their frame than members of the general public. With good reason: careers plummet and rise upon the arbitrary measurement of glamour and fashion. Such a rule applies with particular injustice to women celebs. In an industry where reaching a certain age can often spell doom to her career, a female celebrity is likely to do anything she can to avoid such a trap. Hence the trend of women aligning themselves with a cosmetic or fashion brand—anything to prove to the industry that she’s still vibrant and relevant, and hirable.
Having a baby, as any mother can attest to, can provoke marked changes in a woman’s physical appearance and carriage. Not to mention, the time away from the limelight can, if not handled with smart timing and sophistication, potentially derail one’s path to the fame.
Enter the fearful female celeb’s most prized medical progression of the twenty-first century: the advent of the surrogate. No longer does she herself need to carry her child to term, when she can enlist another willing lady to do so for her. The starlet can maintain her career with nary one day away from the set, while her little bundle of joy is cooking at a steady temperature, in another woman’s oven.
Gay male celebrities, such as Elton John or Neil Patrick Harris, are able to wield their gender and sexuality as legitimate reasons for employing a surrogate to assist their quest in having an infant. 
But Nicole Kidman recently entered a maelstrom of criticism for her and husband Keith Urban’s decision to have a child via surrogate. Much of the distaste is stemming from another infamous female who decided to use surrogates; Camille Grammer, former wife of TV star Kelsey Grammer, memorably voiced her preference for surrogacy on the reality show “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” as a way to safeguard her figure and waistline. Was Kidman following in arguable D-Lister Ms. Grammer’s vanity in skipping the baby bump on her way to the baby?
It’s important we remember that Ms. Kidman has recently entered her forties, past the typical prime for women to carry a child successfully. Several articles have also noted that Ms. Kidman suffers from diabetes, which can also provoke pregnancy complications.
Does Ms. Kidman harbor any desire to protect her svelte styling with a surrogate’s help? No one but Ms. Kidman and Mr. Urban really know. But all signs point away from protecting her celebrity, and toward promoting her and her baby’s wellbeing, as the true reasons for the surrogate.
Celebrities and surrogacy, as Ms. Grammer evidences, can spark a pregnancy polemic. But it does nothing to mute the real advantages that a surrogate can provide, in and out of Hollywood.

….. FINALLY!
A few months ago, we decided it was time to start a Facebook fan page. Easy enough, we thought, we created the page. The simple project would later be handed down to me… Angie… thinking this would be a piece of cake…. NOT!
I could not figure out how to make it visible to others. I followed the instructions Facebook provides and still nothing! I went over the steps, over and over again for hours. Hours turned to days and days turned to months! I decided to take a break. Every so often I would visit the page and navigate for no more than 15min. I maintained the page, but still could not FIND US on Facebook. I asked myself, how could this be so difficult?
While this project was challenging, I did not give up! I was determined to get this working. I did further research and came across a wonderful YouTube video which clarified this was in fact a simple project!
This 3 min. project only took me 6 months to launch! Embarrassed, but quite proud to finally accomplish the task, it is with great pleasure I announce our IVFDiaries.com Facebook Page is up and running!!

The marvelous Oprah Winfrey opens up a family secret to millions of viewers. Oprah revealed she has a half sister, Patricia, whom was given up for adoption by her mother, Vernita Lee. At the time, Oprah was 9 years old and was living with her father in Tennessee.
Patricia was born in 1963 in Milwaukee, and lived in a number of foster homes until the age of seven. She had tried to be reunited with her birth mother, Vernita, but through the agency, she said she did not want to get to know her daughter. On the same day Vernita said she did not want to meet with her daughter, Patricia just happened to view a local news story about Winfrey’s mother. Ironically, the show explained the details of a woman named Vernita Lee, who was talking about a son, Jeffrey, who died in 1989, and a daughter, Pat, who had died in 2003. The information matched details in her adoption records. “The hair on the back of my neck stood up,” Patricia said. “I said, No, that can’t be.”
Patricia had a daughter, Aquarius, when she was 17, and then a son Andre, when she was 23. It was her son who researched Winfrey’s background and found that all the dates matched up. Oprah was made aware of this news last October 2010. The great surprise for Oprah “left her speechless.” She confronted her mother with the information and Lee finally admitted the truth.
Lee and Patricia met on Oct. 25 for the first time since her birth. On Thanksgiving Day, Winfrey drove to her mother’s home in Milwaukee, where her half-sister Patricia was waiting. “It was a Beloved moment,” Winfrey says, referring to the movie in which a daughter comes back from the dead. Home video shows the two embracing for a long moment.
The love of a family can help a person face any hardship in their life, and it is very inspiring to see that although they were separated for many years…a sister’s bond was never broken. “She coming into the family at this time has been a great peace offering, a great symbol of peace-making in this family,” Winfrey said. “I would say I see her as a gift.”
To wake up in the morning and realize that you are Oprah Winfrey’s sister must be an indescribable feeling!!!
